Homemade ranch seasoning is a must-have for our family during the summer, adding flavor to everything from salads to vegetable trays.
A Taste That Celebrates Freshness
Homemade ranch seasoning is a blend of flavors that transforms ordinary dishes into flavorful meals. Combining buttermilk powder, parsley, dill, chives, basil, and thyme creates a mix that’s both savory and aromatic, with a freshness, unlike the store brands. Each ingredient brings flavor, making every sprinkle a celebration of garden-fresh goodness.
Why These Ingredients?
Do you have fresh herbs in the garden? Ranch seasoning mix is easy to make with dried herbs, too.
- Buttermilk Powder: Buttermilk powder is the secret ingredient that gives ranch seasoning its distinctive tangy flavor. It provides a creamy, slightly sour taste that enhances the overall profile of the mix. Buttermilk powder also helps the seasoning adhere better to food, ensuring every bite is flavorful.
- Parsley: Fresh parsley adds a slightly peppery note to the seasoning. It's also rich in vitamins and minerals, making it nutritious. Parsley's vibrant green color and fresh taste are essential for achieving that classic ranch flavor.
- Dill: Dill brings a subtle anise-like flavor that adds depth and complexity to the seasoning. Its slightly sweet and grassy notes perfectly complement the buttermilk powder's tanginess and the other herbs' freshness.
- Chives: Chives add a mild onion flavor that is essential for authentic ranch seasoning. Their delicate, grassy taste enhances the overall blend without overpowering it, providing a gentle hint of onion that ties all the flavors together.
- Basil: Basil adds a sweet, slightly peppery flavor, elevating the seasoning mix. Its aromatic quality brings a fresh, herbaceous note that enhances the overall taste, making the seasoning more complex and flavorful.
- Thyme: Thyme adds a subtle earthiness and a hint of lemony flavor to the mix. Its robust, slightly minty taste rounds out the seasoning, adding depth and richness, making the ranch seasoning unique.

The link you have to buttermilk powder actually goes to active dry yeast. Do you have the correct link? What do you mix the seasoning with to make the sauce?

Can you use milk powder instead? I just had some and didn’t want to buy buttermilk powder until I finished the milk powder.
tinyfarmbigfamily says
Powdered milk has a slightly cooked taste with a mild flavor. Buttermilk powder is somewhat sweet and very tangy because it’s cultured and fermented. I do not recommend substituting powdered milk for buttermilk powder.
